Michael Card plays in Manchester, Maine.

For my first northeaster up in Maine this winter, I drove an hour north to catch up with Michael Card. He played in a little meeting house in Manchester built in 1793 that still has the pews with the little doors on them. I felt terrible making Michael sit for my session after his concert. He played a lovely set including some Christmas pieces remarkably after having been stuck in a Northwestern airplane for 8 hours and then driving 3 hours in the snow. What a trooper. Thanks Michael.

Paul Bunyan
This is what I do between photo shoots since I moved away from the city. And the only bit of culture shock I’ve endured is the shock coming from this new fiberglass splitting maul handle. Ouch!

Clarinetist, Alexey Gorokholinsky

A repeat customer; I met Alexey when he was at Julliard and I did his portrait then. He paid me the ultimate compliment by his repeat business years later. A fantastic musician. I recommend seeking out his work if you appreciate refined, perfectly performed classic and contemporary music.

James shoot's for Yellow Tail

My past work for Johnnie Walker and Jose Cuervo got me a shoot for Yellow Tail Wine through their PR firm, Catalyst. These glasses were designed by Michael Graves Design Group for Yellow Tail.
This is not the final image, but just a mock up of the final. A discriminating eye will notice some hanky-panky.

Anthony Bradley. Professor, King's College.

This shot was an accident. The lights weren’t set yet.. one wasn’t even working.. but, Professor Bradley was just doing it.. ya know? So, I pulled the trigger. The exposure is bad. The shot technically sucks, but that’s what photography was like before the digital age. Sometimes you had to submit a polaroid because all your film got pooched.
It’s appropriate then, that this one is B&W. I’m thinking Capa on D day now.

Alistair Burt, British Parliament Member

It was my distinguished honor to photograph the Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party and member of the British Parliament. A gentleman, Mr Alistair James Hendrie Burt was gracious and has an rich sense of humor… for a Brit.

I recently did a portrait of Senator, Jim Demint R-S.C.
The Senator agreed with me that Republican Party politicians are in dire lack of positive image generation in the media. I then proceeded in asking him to trust me when I put him in an awkward pose for my portrait. It didn’t help when the interviewer (my boss) at my side chimed in, “You know James, that looks really awkward.”
